A music video of Motörhead: 1916 from the album 1916. This song is composed by Lemmy Kilmister.

Lyrics:
16 years old when I went to the war,
To fight for a land fit for heroes,
God on my side, and a gun in my hand,
Chasing my days down to zero,
And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died,
And I never did get any older,
But I knew at the time that a year in the line,
Is a long enough life for a soldier,
We all volunteered, and we wrote down our names,
And we added two years to our ages,
Eager for life and ahead of the game,
Ready for history's pages,
And we brawled and we fought and we whored 'til we stood,
Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder,
A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun,
And that's what you are when you're soldiers,

I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees,
Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother,
And I fell by his side, and that's how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other,
And I lay in the mud and the guts and the blood,
And I wept as his body grew colder,
And I called for my mother and she never came,
Though it wasn't my fault and I wasn't to blame,
The day not half over and ten thousand slain,
And now there's nobody remembers our names,
And that's how it is for a soldier.

  • Great, great song. My Grandfather and Granduncles served during WW1. Grandfather came back and lived a long, fruitful life - two of my Granduncles came home and died shortly after from Gas poisoning in the trenches - God rest them, and all who died!!

  • 27 people actually supported that war.

  • Wow....

  • Wow. A Motörhead song made me cry. I never thought that would happen.

  • 'Twas down the glen one Easter morn To a city fair rode I. When armed line of marching men In squadrons passed me by. No pipes did hum, no battle drum Did sound its loud tattoo But the Angelus bell o'er the Liffey's swell Rang out in the foggy dew. Right proudly high over Dublin town They hung out a flag of war. 'Twas better to die 'neath an Irish sky Than at Suvla or Sud el Bar.
  • 27 dick sucking assholes

  • both of my great - grandads and their brothers fought with the british in that war....

they were irish. im irish. and even though the english were our enemies, they fought with them like brothers for the safety of our future.. unlike today where its all about oil and money.

im proud of my ancestors. damn fucking proud :)

  • oh my.. oh my..

  • What is the Romanian flag doing on the side of the Axis? Kingdom Romania never did support the Axis Powers in fact it was occupied by Bulgarian and Austro-Hungarian troops under the command of Field Marshall Mackensen.

  • Great video. Kilmister would be proud. I'm sure he's watched this.
