westmoore pom 2009 state routine

thanks Shaun Keylock for saving these words for me... they weren't originally posted with this video... but they were words to this team.. this team that changed my life....


"Sometimes my dance friends that aren't involved in the dance team world like to make little comments making fun of the intenseness of danceteaming. And I just want to look them in the eye and tell them to shut up. cuz really... I believe that maybe they know nothing of teamwork. Of totally depending on the girl next to you... and the coach... and the sponsors... and the girl in the left back corner. Of the WHOLE team perfectly doing every skill. Of taking the floor with one routine. Every team fighting to win ONE spot. Only ONE winner. Something about this process makes me feel challenged but safe. It is different than a regular dance competition. It is like, concentrated. It pushes us all to be our best.

That being said... I hope that my team understands that even champions lose battles sometimes. And sometimes, those losses are needed. Sometimes you get too big for your britches. If you are inspiring thousands of people, you are also responsible for living up to that expectation. Comes with the territory. But also... it is our job to win. To always try to win. To look the other teams in the eye and be like, good luck but I am gonna fight to try and beat you. It is our job to be athletes... eat right, exercise, and shut our mouths and train. And... to appreciate the talents of our opponents. Appreciate their talents and learn from them just as they are learning from us"

I saw this on ESPN and I was glued to the TV. I freaking LOVE this routine. Am I thinking of another routine but didn't they change the skirts for Nationals and they were differen by the end?

Emily Shock is the best choreographer, and Westmoore has the best dance team. Period. End of story.

i just want to say what i love more than their dancing is their passion and i love that you can hear emily cheering for them and clapping, and you can tell she is so proud when they are dancing. in another video of this performance you can see her standing up and cheering, i just love to see coaches and teachers that are proud of and care about their kids
