This is the tractor-loader-backhoe test rig at the Georgia Institute of Technology which is configured to replicate biodynamic feedthrough for the purpose of researching control performance degradation. Biodynamic feedthrough occurs when the motion of the controlled machine excites motion of the human operator, which is transmitted back into the control device causing unwanted command input and sometimes instability. This interaction has been observed in our experiments and by our industrial members (John Deere, Bobcat, Caterpillar). CCEFP researchers at Georgia Tech are modeling this interaction to predict the conditions under which it will occur and understand its effects on the control system dynamics.
