Franz Josef Haydn: 'The heavens are telling', sung by St Peter's Singers of Leeds

This extract from Haydn's great sacred oratorio 'The Creation' was recorded during St Peter's Singers' lunchtime recital given on 28th October 2009 in the beautiful Basilica de Sant Francesc, Palma de Mallorca. The recital formed part of the choir's acclaimed concert tour of Mallorca.

The conductor is Dr Simon Lindley, the Singers' Music Director since the choir's formation in 1977. The organist is David Houlder, Sub-Organist of Leeds Parish Church and the Singers' regular accompanist.

Solo Bass
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void.
And darkness was upon the face of the deep.

Choir
And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said: Let there be light.
And there was light.

Solo Tenor
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

Chorus
The heavens are telling the glory of God:
the firmament displays His wondrous handiwork.

Trio: Soprano, Tenor and Bass
For day unto day doth show forth His praise: and night unto night the same doth proclaim.
In all the lands resounds the word: never unperceived, ever understood.
