Hey there, I'm trevor, I have a handicap of 2.7 but lately iv been struggling with a hook or heavy draw. I'm pretty confident its because my back swing sets up for me to come why inside and "sweeping" around the ball. Are there anny drills I could do to help me out. I need my actual swing to look like my practice swing.
In the video I'm int he fairway hitting 2 iron hybrid at Olympic Club's famous Lake Course in San francisco CA( 10th best course in the country may i add)
Thanks Everybody!!! HItm On the Short grass
u have a loop from outside to in going back and then thru which causes u to turn the ball over to much

Hennybogan007 sounds almost as wise as BennyHogan? But his analyse is correct. I would suggest you have someone have a look at your grip... you need to maintain the same distance between the buttend of the club and your bellybutton as you move the club away for the first 2 feet(one piece takeaway). A hinge is when the wrists move sideways like a door, cocking them is more upwards like cocking a gun. There is more cocking than hingeing in the golfswing, I hope this can be useful

Well, actually my handicap is now +0.5. I'm not going to waste my time replying to you but I will say many great players didn't have a good looking swing.

READ 2 COMMENTS BELOW FIRST! ok so there many different ways to get to a better position at the top. (slowing ur arms down, increasing wrist hing etc etc) bottom line is unless u r sergio, u wont be able to clear your lower body quick enough from that position at the top. Work on preventing your hands from moving away from your body on the way back, and creating a "cupped" left wrist at the top of your back swing. Start with just those 2 things first. Ill check back

FIRST thing to do is visit your local PGA Instructor. You are going to get 99% BS from people who are experts at reading Golf Digest. Their tips are going to pull you in 100 different ways. It is difficult to truly give sound advise on that swing alone. That being said, being a taller player with skill, you have a very functional golf swing. One reason for your "hooks" is a laid off position at the top which makes it difficult to turn your lower body on the way down.

the result... your arms outracing your body, hands turn over too quickly and presto! a hook! I bet when your buddies tell u to "slow your swing down" that your hooks are reduced. Its because it gives your body time to turn and slows your arms down. Normally I wouldn't dare give all this info to a student, but in general better players (such as yourself) are able to take info take the reasoning behind a fault and correct it themselves

Backswing you take the club outside the line and in your downswing it comes inside the line. That's what is causing the hooks and heavy draws.
