When we moved to our property in 1980 I planted 5 tomato plants in this garden and watered them with 5 gallon buckets as there was no access to water yet. I planted vegetables the first few years then the Redwoods grew large and blocked much of the light. I decided to go strickly flowers, shrubs and native plants, Then it evolved into kind of a Asian style garden or just a hidden "secret" garden. I am constantly looking for great shade plants and sometimes I feel like it will never be finished. Someday I would love to have a little Asian teahouse right at the very top of the garden and could add more landscape plants leading up to it. /this garden will always be a work in progress.

  • No not rich. Many people live in the Redwoods here in Humboldt county. I think the property only cost about 10,000 dollars back in 1978. It's still not worth much in todays economy. Lots of people don't like to live in the woods because of all the shade. Redwoods grow like weeds here. They are pretty but can be invasive.
