This test is mainly to see if the rubber seal in this ammo can will hold. If you buy an ammo can I would advocate testing each of youre ammo cans especially if they are old ammo cans. The whole point of the rubber seal is to keep moisture from getting inside and messing up youre bullets. The only caliber you really need to use this for is .22 caliber because the gunpowder soaks up moisture like crazy and when it comes time to use the bullets, well they wont work so invest some money in these inexpensive pieces of equipment.

  • It would be faster if you just fill the can with water, close lid, flip it up side down, let it sit and look for leaks.

  • thats one way to do it man lol

  • Need to discuss storage temp. If your ammo cans are stored (say in a garage) the temp change from the AM to the PM can cause the can to "burp" in or out air as the air temp changes. I use ammo cans in the garage/workshop for nuts and bolts and the Dallas temp change I can hear the cans burping on occasion.

  • i dont really know the storage temp, i just put them in my room and its about i guess 70 degrees

  • your other vid made me go out a buy a few more ammo cans xD

  • well i am glad i can help out a good friend

  • @ccoder32 what does it sound like just a hiss?

  • @bigbattles watter inside you can. smart. you must be a minority.

  • @zameul35 It's not wasting it if it's in the name of science or survival!

  • A better test is to fill them with gasoline, toss in a flare and close the lid real fast. If it does not leak gas with the extra pressure... you are good to go.

  • Your going to piss off the tree huggers wasting all that water.

  • Thats what they do,protect your ammo

  • @folken692000 more durable seal if dropped trown etc carry handle but more weight

  • This test is pretty benign...not enough pressure differential or time. Try sending the can to the bottom of a 8+ ft (~3.5+ PSI) deep pool with a weight and leaving it there for 1 or more weeks.

  • @SFCGrazier They don't actually burp (let air in or out) they do expand and contract and make "clunk" noises. One of the things I look for when buying them at the surplus store is if they "hiss" when opened. Altitude and temp differences between where they were last open and where I get them causes that. the hiss lets me know the seal is REAL good. Nice little vid, by the way.

  • I have tupperware that seals airtight/watertight which I use to store ammo in... any reason I should upgrade to a rust magnet like this other than aesthetics?
