Transgender Remembrance Day 2010

Bryan was asked to give a speach tonight for his good friend Corina who we lost to suicide this year. We were invited to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral to take part in:

The International Transgender Day of Remembrance memorializes those killed due to their actual or perceived gender identity and expression. The first memorial was a candlelight vigil in November 1999 to honor Rita Hester, murdered in 1998. Since then, annual memorials have been observed around the world around November 20.

Since 2005, our support group has held an Annual Candlelight Vigil in observance of the International Transgender Day of Remembrance on the third Saturday of each November.

I watched his video like 4 times and it brought tears to my eyes every time. What a beautiful thing to do for such a wonderful friend. Through you two friends we all know who she was and that's an incredible gift to give to someone.

I agree that the T in lgbtq gets the least of everything but the most of pain. May things get better for them. Im glad im from a somewhat semi modern conservative asian society because we find people like them rly cool and we kinda rave at the fact and those ppl are actly socially popular! :)

I try and try to be open and not judge people on appearance. Every time I think I'm "mr. politically correct".. I find I have so much to learn. Bryan, Jay, Corina.... you have brought more into my own life than I would have ever experienced alone. I thank you for that. Corina has touched many people. Both in the family she chose and family she was born to. I will never have the opportunity to meet her. But I honor her memory. Thank you Corina.

My university had a pretty big line-up for the week of Trans Day of Remembrance. We held a candlelight vigil outside the main building and read off names of transpeople who died just for being who they were. I'm so happy that people are at least beginning to take these things seriously. I just want you to know that I'll be thinking about Corina along with the others I know.
