名人教英文 梁家傑：英文名不宜亂改

談到時下年輕人的英文名，梁家傑感到大惑不解﹕「不明白他們為什麼老給自己起奇怪的名字，例如Bird、Coco、Superman等等，這些名字真令外國人貽笑大方。」

梁家傑說「Bird」在比較地道和粗鄙的英語裏，多指「不正經的女人」。「要外國人稱呼你為『Bird』，不但被人取笑，也叫人難堪。」他指學生改英文名時，可先翻查字典­的英文名字附錄，並了解英文名字的文化含意。

梁家傑又說，回歸後第一批香港終審法院法官之一的沈澄，對大律師的英文名字非常執著。沈澄早上9時正回到高等法院，第一時間便看看新上班的大律師的名字。「他看見不像洋名­的洋名，便說﹕『你叫Tommy？Tommy不是正式的洋名，你叫Tom或是Thomas吧，否則明天不用上班了。』」
