The mistake on the school districts side was that the admin. who saw the pictures taken, confronted the student because she thought she saw Blake taking pills in the snapshots. Now because Blake's family owed Peco a lot of money, they took this turn of events (that with most other families, could have been handled much more civilized) and decided to sue the district. Now, my parents and friends must pay thousands of dollars (because the case is no longer class action) to this fucked up family.

i wish he had gotten all of hit facts before reporting on this. I go to Lower Merion high school and there is a lot of info. that was not addressed in this video, such as that the program that activates the cameras, is for lost or stolen computers. Because Blake Robbins (the kid who is sued the district) did not turn in his insurance money and a misunderstanding between the district and the student occurred, the laptop was thought to be lost, so the camera was activated.

@knucklepunt Then why did they come up with that lame 'checking to make sure they do their homework' excuse?
I read some more about this. Apparently, all the laptops had an anti-theft program installed, which allowed administrators to remotely turn on the camera and take pictures or video of whoever is holding the laptop. A pretty good idea when you are lending laptops to an entire school, and don't want them to get stolen. So where did it get wrong? Well, students noticed the cameras turning on very often. So some creepy admin was using the anti-theft feature to spy on the teens. Sick!
