Faulkes was organist at St John's Tuebrook in Liverpool in the early 20th century and wrote some really good pieces for the organ which make excellent voluntaries. This striking piece is based on the plainsong 'Urbs Beata' and is most effective, apart from a couple of awkward bars of 5/4 time!
