@garcondebanane I have also heard them called omni-wheels. Did you see them in the Star Trek movie? It's the scene with the guy from SGAtlantis in the warehouse before the ferry trip up to the ships. they were on the tow motor mythbusters have one also. (probably the same one, lol)

Those strange looking wheels are called mecanum wheels. The robot moves sideways when front and back wheels rotate in opposite directions.
