This song is AWESOME. It was originally written by Jimmy Webb (who wrote "Wichita Lineman" too, by the way), then in the 80s "The Highwaymen" - who named themselves after this song - made it a big hit. "The Highwaymen" were a country supergroup composed by Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash. You don't get much better than this.
