Correct. It's not the date of TAPING that mattered, it was the date the show was going to AIR. Which was always on the opening slate.
(One side note/exception. When the three networks started to air the Watergate hearings during the daytime hours -- it wreaked havoc with the daytime programming for the duration. I recall that Gene started saying "We'll see you NEXT TIME", instead of 'tomorrow' or 'Monday', because they DIDN'T KNOW how many eps they would be airing in any given week.)

No, shows are taped ahead of time. People in the audience were told that it is being taped ahead of time. How was that confusing.

I don't remember any of the specifics but I do remember seeing the name-change episode. If I remember right it aired at 2:30pm on NBC in Seattle.
