Strange comment. Ives was an inspiration to Tippett and Putnam's Camp was great to play. It made a refreshing change from some of the mainstream European works we played with the orchestra.

My last name is Tippett. I have the big ears just like him, and am naturally talented at all sorts of musical instruments. Maybe we are connected in some way...hehe.

Hi Wesleigh. Be careful that the name is Tippett and not Tippet - I assume you are just spelling it incorrectly. Sir Michael's Dad was the lawyer Henry William Tippett(1858 - 1944) from Cornwall. His Mum was Isabel Clementine Binny Kemp(1880 - 1969) but none of my books mentions George or Winnie. If you concentrate on SMT's Dad's family tree you will certainly find the answer. Best of luck.

The version conducted by Collin Davis is the best out of the 2 versions that I have heard or know of. The second movement has a string segment in it that reminds me of Ives Central Park in the Dark, the other portions are delicate yet very complex polytonal motifs and in the middle of the piece go into a complete retrograde. The first movement is also great very ruckus but all motifical parts are clear and woven together heterophonically. The horns (particularly French) R so Tippet!
