I don't disbelieve anything said on this thread abt. Fripp. Bill Bruford dedicated an entire chapter in his memoir to Fripp, and it wasn't exactly flattering. (Although it certainly was entertaining!) Still love his music, but I'd hate to meet him. Probably best that one should never meet their heroes to begin with, as they're liable to disappoint more times than not.
king crimson was an outstanding band. sometimes you need extreme characters to change things. so honestly I FUCKIN' DON'T CARE as I don't share a room with fripp.
To add fuel to the fire, my friends saw Fripp recently in Albany and said he was a fussy, infuriating jerk. He stopped the show dead several times, glared at the audience, and threatened to walk off whenever someone broke THE RULES by taking a photo with a flash. He behaved like a crabby little old lady and treated the audience like children.
I stand by my opinion that Fripp is a toad. His music is impeccable, but his manners towards others is without mercy or manners. Off the top of my head, an example: He demanded that a locally hired roady named Robert actually change his name, because Fripp got upset at having to turn his precious head during setup/soundchecks when Tony or Adrian called out for roady Bobby's help That's dickweed central in my book. Ever wonder why the only constant in KC is Fripp?
darkeningskies1 : You are correct in that I dont know Fripp, but I just had dinner with Belew and Levin in Ashville, N.C. Last week, and a 30 minute conversation with Bruford backstage after an Earthworks show at the Jazz Bakery in Hollywood back in 2003, and I do trust their take on Bobby Fripp. Based on their anecdotes, other interviews and the like, plus what I have seen during many KC concerts, I stand by my opinion that Fripp is a toad.
