Mountain Dulcimer tuned DAC

Scarborough Fair

1 1 5 4 5 2 3 2 1
5 7 8 7 5 6 4 5
8 8 8 7 5 5 5 4 3 2 0
1 5 4 3 2 1 0 1

Shady Grove

1 1 1 2 1 0
1 1 3 4 5
7 7 5 4 2 0
1 3 4 3 1

note #1:
You will notice that I have painted the 6 1/2 fret a dark color. This allows me to instantly known where that fret is. I paint the 6 1/2 fret on my strumstick as well (for the same reason).

note:#2
The 6 1/2 fret which is common but not always present on mountain dulcimers is always present on the strumstick. On the strumstick the 6 1/2 fret is called the 7th fret... confused? I certainly find it confusing so I have adopted the mountain dulcimer notation for both instruments. It makes things a lot easier.

note #3:
You can also play this on a strumstick.

  • Well done, Sir John, like the sound of that tuned to DAC, thanks for sharing.

  • Well suited to a minor key.

  • I remember that beautiful instrument, and the lovely music it makes.
