This is part one of a four part tribute to the late Reggie Lewis. He was a professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics from 1987-1993. His life tragically ended in the summer of 1993 while shooting baskets at the Celtics old practice facility at Brandeis University.

This first part begins with the tribute from ESPN SportsCenter, anchored by Keith Olbermann and Mike Tirico. It then transitions into a special 30-minute tribute that originally aired on SportsChannel and was hosted by Celtics play-by-play man Mike Gorman. It is from 1993. Enjoy.

  • i can`t find any highlights videos of him ¿was this guy good?

  • @Daken3687 Absolutely was. Other than MJ and maybe Mitch Richmond, was the top SG in the league and would have been throughout the 90's. Great scorer (old-school mid-range game) but not a top defender. Too bad not enough of his games are online, but there are a handful out there.

  • @Daken3687 No problem. It's sad on many levels that Reggie left us too soon, he was spectacular to watch. He had a smooth jumper that was always in control. I remember him scoring in bunches and one game at MSG scored 25 first quarter points in 1993 I believe. Can't recall what he wound up with but he was a solid player. Great guy too in the community.

  • Thanks for posting this. It brings back many sad memories. I got goose bumps watching this, as it brought me back to that day in 1993 I was sitting in my living room and the news interrupted programming to inform Boston that Reggie had passed away. Like many, I was in disbelief and remember having tears in my eyes watching the tributes in the days that followed. 27 years young: what a tragedy. He was a terrific player who was humble as well. He may be gone, but Reggie will never be forgotten.

  • @BeatLAAgain Well said, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Reggie will always be missed dearly.

  • @rockyrack3 Thanks, forgot about Drexler! But you're absolutely right about that summer. Don't forget, Jordan "retired" then too and the NBA changed. Too bad really, all of it.

  • @mrtripledouble10 thanks for the info there is nothing better than to keep learning about the game and its players

  • @DrSanto91 You got that right.

  • @elgriego331 it would have been great to see the lewis and bias playing together, Red Aurerbach knew how to recruit players, maybe the celts would have been still contender and oppose the scottie pippen and michael jordan.

  • R.I.P reggie!

  • Great man.

  • great player...shame
