Kingdom Hearts 1: Riku/Ansem no heal/items/specials (Expert)

To execute this strategy, you need Dodge Roll, Guard, Counterattack, and 1 Combo Plus ability. Blitz is also very helpful, since it knocks him back a bit further than the normal finisher.

Riku/Ansem (or Rikuhort, if you prefer =P) is programmed to counter your combos after every 4 hits (at the beginning of the battle, he'll counter with his 2-hit dashing slash). If the 4th hit is a finisher--which it always will be with 1 Combo Plus--you have enough time to Guard the counter, then use Counterattack after Guard to combo him again.

Once you take off about 1/8 of his yellow HP bar, he'll start countering with his spinning attack, then he'll follow up with the usual dash slash attack. This only requires you to alter your tactics a little bit; after you finish a combo on him, Dodge Roll away to avoid the spinning attack, then Guard+Counterattack like you did before. Repeat as needed.

Using this method, you can get and keep him in a loop where he's forced to use the same 1-2 attacks over and over again. He won't even be able to use his super attack.

Well, if you picked the Staff, you should already have Counterattack (@ level 18 or 21, IIRC).

Unfortunately, you'll have a hard time getting the 1st Combo Plus (I believe Staff doesn't get it until somewhere in the 60's), which will make the "no damage/healing" part of this strategy difficult.

However, even with just Guard and Counterattack, you can beat him easily enough by loading up on dark damage resistance. Heal at half HP, and jump away and use Cure in mid-air when you do.

damn it! i still can't beat this boss and i hav been playing it since it came out! everyday i play on this game and try to kill the boss a bit more die ten times and give up for the day! i basically do what this guy is doing but i still die and i am at a higher level too! i really suck at this game!

I know I'm gona sound like a bimbo when I say this but I stopped playing kingdom hearts ages ago because of this boss. I did equip counter, guard and ana-something, i forgot the name lol. I read the description but how to do actually use guard in a battle,do you just press square? and I see that counter flashes next to your attack.hmmm I'll keep reading the description till i get it lol.
