The European People's Party held a hearing on web blocking in the European Parliament on 2 July.
In this recording, a Commission official answers the question "why does the Commission's impact assessment on this policy not assess the impact in countries where blocking already exists?"

  • Cencelia is an imbecile and her proposal will not solve the problem only swipe it under the carpet and all you have to do is to go and lift the carpet and you will be able to take part of it any way. and censures only lead to more censure.

  • @kjelli She's not an imbecile - she's a politician mistakenly proposing an imbecilic proposal for badly thought out and badly researched reasons.

  • I have no proof what's happening. Or where. Or if anything is happening at all. All I know is that we must DO something against it!

  • @minski76 Just google European Commission blocking, or cecilia malmstrom blocking or censilia and you'll find all the proof you need... unfortunately.

  • We know that child porn sites are getting better at hiding and getting better at using dark technology. It is silly to ask ISPS to try to do the work of the state, on the cheap, or to assist in promoting the lie that simple technical measures deal with complex social problems. ISPS can not make complicated value judgements about which sites to block, it wont be simple, it will be messy. @digecon

  • @EuCriminals

Actually, what the guy says makes perfect sense. Nobody knew of the exact extent of sex abuse scandals of the church till victims spoke out. That we did not know then exactly how many victims there were does not mean a) that they did not exist; or b) that the problem did not exist.

If he had claimed that everything was cristal clear, then that would have been worrying.

For every difficult question, there is always an answer that is clear, short... and wrong.

  • If blocking the internet eradicates a problem why hasn't anybody censored all the web pages about the oil spill, the wars in the middle east, global warming, poverty and famine?

We don't really need to know for sure if it will work, we just need to act now!

  • They should all be fired for incompetence immediately.

  • People on the internet eat babies.

  • @TMTGAU I'm not sure how your comment was removed. Anyway, yes, it gets slow at a certain point but, as the video points out, this isn't a joke. The guy speaking is really the official responsible for the real EU legislation.
