Born Robert Frazier, Chill Rob G is a gruff Queens, NY, MC who was part of Wild Pitch producer the 45 King's Flavor Unit MCs in the early '90s. He released one album, Ride the Rhythm, but is best-known for an unlikely association with techno-pop group Snap. Snap had an international hit with "The Power," based around samples of Rob G's "Let the Words Flow." A different version was recorded for Ride the Rhythm, but the damage to Chill's credibility -- a tough New York MC with a dance-pop hit -- was already done. Little was heard from the talented rapper until he appeared on two tracks on British producers DSP's 2002 album, In the Red.

  • @TheAtotheK Good ear, dude. I re-listened to the 3d verse (starts at 2:58) and you're right, that rhyme pattern is unique and intense.

This was a golden period for hip-hop.

  • This is one of my favorite Hip Hop songs of all-time. I don't think I have ever heard an emcee with Chill Rob G's rhyme cadence. Check the third verse. He make two words at the beginning of almost every bar rhyme and then makes the last word of the first bar rhyme with the last word of the next bar (if that makes sense lol)! He basically does this for the whole verse with a message while utilizing high levels of vocab. I don't know if people realize how crazy that is.

  • He was absolutely one of my favorite of all time!! Chill Rob G was in my top 3 during the golden age of hip-hop. Lyrical genius and Ill flow to match.

I once called Wild Pitch Records to speak to him and they actually put him on the phone. I got so nervous, all I could say was " I really love your music." He answered by thanking me. I had a demo back then, but I was too scared to ask him to hear it. One of my greatest regrets. You only get one shot in life.
