Recorded May 15, 2010 at Memphis' Levitt Shell. Jon Auer plays Chris Bell's guitar in this. A review of the show indicated that members of Chris' family were at the performance.
This is quite amazing. Back in 1991, my band played on a bill with Jon and Ken. Jon and I talked a lot about the significance of Chris Bell and Neil Young and how it seemed lost on guys our age. To Jon, they were musical gods cut from the same cloth.
It's a Gibson ES-330 with a fitted Bigsby tremelo system with the pick guard removed. The Bigsby may have been factory fitted. The pick ups are the dog eared metal covered single coil Gibson P90s. Same pick ups were used on the Epiphone Casino when Gibson owned Epiphone. The year will be post 1961 as by mid 1962 small block fingerboard inlays had replace dot inlay, nickel pickup covers replace black plastic pickup covers and a cherry finish became available.
It IS Big Star. Jody is on the drums, which - as you would be able to see if your head wasn't so far up your ass - has "Big Star" and the logo on the kick drum. And if you watch the video the whole way through, you'll get an explanation as to why they played the gig, even though Alex had recently passed.
