Freakin seriously how has this not been implemented yet? I watched this like two years ago and thought it was the greatest idea I'd ever heard of.

An asphalt roadway is only 5% at the most petroleum based. The rest of the road is aggregate. Asphalt pavement may also contain up to 40% recycled asphalt in production.

While what you say is true, one has to start somewhere. And when work is funded and in process, we might as well incorporate smart technology whenever and wherever we can. It floors me that Solar Roadways is just a few miles north of where a massive highway improvement project is occurring - and they're not an active part of it. Some day!

Are you a part of our homeowner's association Jerramy? :-) Just trying to get these people to agree to do anything to maintain our roadways has been a real eye opener. I think they enjoy fighting! Still, this is a great idea and I hope communities wiser than mine will get on board with it!

I remember reading that the American economy is based on the export of defence systems, weapons, military hardware, training and technology. All other exports together don't even come close.

Okay, asphalt is $1000/tonne... how can these things be any less than $1000/panel?

yeah tell me about it. it wouldn't make any moral or logical sense to use a fraction of the annual military defense budget to replace a system so outdated its starting to fall apart, and even kills people sometimes.

Sounds great, I wonder how much it would cost an individual to "adopt" the length of road outside his suburban home - say 50 meters? If everyone in the neighbourhood agreed to do that... but just try getting everyone on board.
