WAMU did not fail, it was Hijacked by JP Morgan which was in the works prior to the collapse in the economy. Surveys where done primarily in California on what their perception of JP Morgan Chase, and the result revealed that many Californians thought of Chase as a credit card company. A meeting in the 4th qt of 06 revealed Chases intention to capture the West coast market and the name WaMu was brought up as a possibility.
