There are around 2000 competitors most of which are not pros. On average, there are 20 week training programs that start with the assumption that you can swim for 45 mins, bike for 3-4 hrs and run for 2 hrs. There are a lot of variables and program types though.

What is the break down of particapents between professionals and 'amateurs'?
How long would you have to train from a very basic level of fitness?

I just completed 4 IM's in 2009 including the World Championships...I have done 8 total since 1998...Your life changes after you've done an IM...your life really changes after you do Kona...it's amazing...Next up IM St George 2010 - IM Arizona 2010...you CAN.

Even after completing and Ironman this video still gives me chills. Any one looking to achieve this it is worth all the countless hours and miles that I put into my goal. My perception of what my limits are have forever changed. I am planning a run across the U.S. in 2010. Go big or go home!

Why is it that even after I have completed an Ironman, I still get goosebumps every time I watch this video. The power of the Ironman is so strong. Good luck to those that look to accomplish this, it is worth every hour of training I ever put in!
