I think the wood of the guitar which narrows it decreases the tension of the strings.
Why indeed is it stronger on the third ? Perhaps because it is closer to the middle of the neck ? It's just a hypothesis ...

The effect of differing the temperature is so fast: it effects to the strings - surely, after a while, to the body of the guitar, too. Now I'm not quite sure did it effect same way (=down) to the steel strings since it was so long ago when I had steel strings on this Bjärton candy guitar. I can't really say if your theory is wrong or right - interesting, though, but at least this is a bigger problem for us here than to you. I live just on the Arctic Circle in Finland.

Maybe it's something that happens specifically to nylon since it's a different material. Kind of like how water expands when it freezes but other liquids shrink. *shrugs*
Cool though...

As I told to Thomas before, I don't remember what the effect was to the steel strings - I used steel strings maybe for 25 years ago, but I'm quite sure that nylon doesn't go larger on a cooler temperature, but at least we, here, tune our guitars tens of times a day! Thanks for your interest.
