  • I rode in the cab of an F7 back in '71 when working for the Soo. It was in Marshfield and we went to pick up train #27 whose crew had "died." It was an amazing feeling peering out the front window of the F.

  • @F7railfan The F's also supposedly had better ride qualities than their contemporaries the GP7/9's although they were mechanically similar. They were more suited for road freights and passenger trains than for local switching. Both are true classics not unlike mid 1950's automobiles.

  • Such great forward visibility in those Fs, but if you have to back up, oh my!

  • I miss that old sound of the Leslie Tyfon A-200 horn :-)

  • That loco has a Westinghouse E2 facing one way and a Leslie A200 facing the other. They are tied together presently off that one lanyard.

  • What kind of horn is that? It reminds me of an e2b1, but it doesnt seem deep enough?

  • Yes.

  • Nothing like a cab ride in an E unit or F-unit. My oldest daughter got one when she was 'still in the womb' in 1981 on a Southern Diesel excursion from Knoxville, Tennessee to Cumberland Gap, Tennessee with a 'train turn' at Middlesboro, Kentucky. Those were the days!

  • Soo 2500?
