Punch-Out!! Contender (NES Mix)

In celebration of the brand new Punch-Out!! for the Wii I'm uploading some old goodies once again.

Long history behind these two demos I'm uploading today. But the short version is, I was (and still am) working for a gifted artists and pixeler who recruited me for a currently hiatus project and went on to an easier one he could finish with a smaller team. But his graphics were going to lean very 8-bit compared to the former project. So there was debate if 8-bit music or more modern music felt more appropriate. So in a free afternoon, I quickly revved up a couple renditions of Punch-Out!!'s fight theme. This one is obviously the NES version, sporting a thicker amount of instruments and later NES era sampling for drums to give it an edgier sound. I say I have more work to do if I plan on keeping up with 8-bit styles but it still came out nice. Enjoy!

To me, this sounds more like it belongs in an early Sega Genesis or TurboGrafx-16 game. Are there any NES titles that you would suggest if you wanted to compare audio with this song?

There's a lot of the Konami sampling going here. So the Contra series, Castlevania III, Jackal, and many other similar era Konami titles would likely have a similar sound (though my remix here is lazy by comparison to some of those great tunes). Other games like Magician and Journey to Silius would be good examples.
