The model is complete! But before we even think about opening Photoshop, there are a few things left to do in 3ds Max. You'll learn about the importance of polygon economy, Unwrap UVW, and even overlapping. Then its off to Photoshop for some texturing hi-jinx. Following tutorials will showcase bring creative Photoshop textures back into Max and preparing everything for online deployment via Papervision 3D. Get ready for action!

  • Video Host.. You're making 5 sided polygons, whenever it is imported into any Engine, this can cause many problems. A Useful modifier is Turn To Poly, which turns any 5 or more sided poly's to triangles or 4 sided. In addition to that, you can just use the Connect tool to connect vertices. And VIVIDBOXMEDIA, you hold the CTRL button and click remove to remove both VERTICES and EDGES.

    Cheers, Good Video

  • thanks for posting the video, its done really well, giving the info, in a really easy way to understand.

  • @Sephern Unity, CryEngine 3 and Source doesnt do that.. get on my level and I've used UDK quite a lot and I've always unwrapped..

  • @Smash3x UDK unwraps the texture for you when you export from Max, and he states in the beginning of the video what the purpose is for the model. Get on my level or gtfo.

  • @PhotoShopChannel At least you have a good university that teaches that..

the city I live in, the course is basically a media course and its terrible.

  • @markjason2 its because on your edit poly modifier you still have something selected, go back to it make sure none of the polygons, edges, verts are selected then go back to the UVW modifier.

  • @Sephern you do if you want to import it to any game engine e.g. UDK or CryEngine3 and also if you need to use marmoset or any other 3D model viewing software.

what you just said is a noob mistake.

  • my 400 is WAY more epic than this but still is not a lot O.o and wtf 8 sided polys? I know a model that will look bad ;)

  • 91 is nothing wtf

  • This is completely useless...just apply the texture to the face and scale it, you don't even need a UVW Map or UVW Unwrap modifier. >.<

  • @PhotoShopChannel Great! how is it going with your course?

  • You should never delete polys more then needed and if you do you should make sure its doesnt effect rest of the structure which happend to you durning unwrapping. And by the way guys dont be afraid of having alot polys what hes doing here is preparing the model for 3d papervision. And when i sey dont be afraid of having alot polys idont mean you should over do it and turn everything in turbosmooth :P
