The Fairies

This is my entry for the Woman in Black competition, I'm so excited that I finally got this done! Probably not my best, I wish it didn't have to be 2 minutes but hey, wouldn't be a competition without some limits. Wish me luck guys!

In case my voice isn't clear, and believe me I don't think it is, here's the story in text form so you can read along:

Sunday 3rd April 1907
Even now, Emily still plays with those little creatures at the end of the garden. If she knows what they are, she won't say, and sneaks away at night when I cannot stop her to visit them. I am told by Nanny that she is heard humming to them, begging them to smile. I confess I understand. When she dragged me to them I almost cried if it weren't for fear. I've never seen creatures cry more furiously than they did.

Tuesday 5th April 1907
There's a stir over Emily's little fairies. She begs to see the box I have decided to keep them in constantly. I've never seen her act in such a way. Isaac has studied them, finding them to be quite happy. Isaac still knows nothing about the creatures except that they seemed to speak. Not coherently, just as if they were foreign animals that spoke their own language.

Thursday 7th April 1907
It seems that after Isaac left this morning, three creatures left with him. Maybe more. They must have escaped. Emily still begs me for them and is far too young for a crafty nature, I am sure she is not stowing any away. They simply disappeared. I have not dared to open that box yet today, no more must escape. There is an unholy aura I can almost see around that jewellery box now; I cannot bear to look at it.

Friday 8th April 1907
Though I had first met them in a state of sorrow, those fairies left gather now and lay small hands on my fingertips, dancing. I thought them to be little spirits in that moment and almost forgot what they were, or weren't. Then they spoke to me, I'm sure. Their small voices frightened me so I quickly grabbed the jewellery box and slammed it upturned on the floor over them. Then, one by one, they melted through the wood and emerged walking on the other side, looking at me. I screamed then. There was no use in keeping them there; they no longer wanted to remain trapped.

Saturday 9th April 1907
The police don't know where Emily has gone to. Nanny put her to bed and twice checked the lock on the window. The door had not opened once, the beds remained made. She's just gone. And with her, all but one of the remaining creatures. In my anger I tried to kill the last one, but it always melts through my hand or shoe, only staring up at me as I let out my rage against it. Strange, I almost saw remorse in the way it stood there, hands folded, accepting its useless beating. I gave in, not noticing that it had followed me to my room until I began writing this. It sits on my pillow now, staring at me. I doubt it will even be there in the morning.
