Bobby Braddock wrote this great ballad for Marty while he was his pianist in the mid 1960's. It's a wonderful song that encapsulates so well the trials and tribulations of a couple Will and Matilda on a wagon train journey in the 19th century American west.
Bobby Braddock co-wrote with Curl Putnam what is acknowledged by many to be the greatest country song of all time, namely 'He Stopped Loving Her Today.' I think this song is a truly great song as well, with Marty at his very best doing full justice to it. Amazingly missed by Bear Family somehow and not included in the 'Under Western Skies' box set. It should have been; it is a truly great western song
Tarquin, thank you for this song! My Grandmother's name was Mathilda this brings up so many wonderful memories. Grama37
