Please exercise your right to vote in BC.
It is a right and responsibility that we should not take for granted.

Selected history of voting in BC (from elections BC website)
1871- First provincial election
1883- School teachers now allowed to vote
1900- Civil servants now allowed to vote
1906- Election deposit reduced to $100 (had been $200 since 1890)
1917- Women now allowed to vote
1920- Election deposit no longer required
1947- Chinese and East Indian Canadians now allowed to vote
1948- Mennonites and Hutterites now allowed to vote
1949- First Nations and Japanese Canadians now allowed to vote
1952- Doukhobors now allowed to vote in BC
1982- People without adequate knowledge of English or French now allowed to vote
1992- Voting age lowered to 18 (previously 19 years of age)
2001- Fixed election dates created: every four years, second Tuesday of May.
2005- Referendum on electoral reform- BC-STV receives almost enough support to pass (58% overall, majority in 97% of ridings)
2009- BC-STV again on referendum ballot.
