i owned a nokia n97 white color... but the major issues with white edition are:
1. gets dirt on the qwerty keyboard
2, the light is not even on qwerty.
exchanged white with black and i have no issue with it at all...

5300 doesn't have: - 3g - as large screen - qwerty slideout keyboard - 2nd camera - cool homescreen :P
The list could go on and on forever...

well its kinda like why would you get the iphone 3gs when you could get the iphone 3g cheaper just with out as many features...
