This video documents brew day, 12 May 2011. I make a batch of stout using the recipe below. I show the process of brew day from acquiring the grain to mash-in, boil, and wort-chilling. I did not have a clip from the lautering, but I'll briefly describe it.

Lautering is the process of filtering out the liquid (wort) from the grain-liquid mix (mash). I used a stainless steel hose braid as a filter, and add a few gallons of hot water to the top of the mash as the liquid filters through to increase the yield, and to compensate for the water lost during the boil. Adding additional water in the lauter stage is known as "sparging."

Recipe:
10.5 lbs Pale Malt
1 lb Crystal C-60 Malt
.5 lb Chocolate Malt
.5 lb Roasted Malt
.5 lb Black Patent Malt
2 oz Fuggles (addition at beginning of boil)
Irish Ale Yeast (White Labs)
