The public was allowed to voice their distress about a proposed Stage IV Phase II Permit Modification application submitted by Casella Waste Systems', (Casella), North Country Environmental Services, (NCES) for an one million (1,000,000) ton landfill ten year expansion in Bethlehem NH. Three representatives from Casella and a cooperative entourage from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) deflect concerns raised at this initial four-hour dump expansionpublic hearing.
One of those worries is the asbestos that was knowingly, and unknowingly accepted by Casella that is buried at unidentified locations. (See the "Casella's asbestos location discussed at public input." YouTube video.) Now Casella wants to dig this asbestos back up to build forty foot earth retaining wall around the existing NCES dump perimeter, which goes against the eighteen (18) votes by Bethlehem to not expand the NCES landfill, in an effort to burry an additional one million (1,000,000) tons of waste on top of the three and one half million (3,500,000) tons that are already there. Filmed July 15, 2008.
