MINNEAPOLIS - In February, 5-year-old Gabe Greiling was run over by a school bus in south Minneapolis.
The past three months have been extraordinarily demanding and difficult, as the Windom School kindergartner recovers from pelvic and femur fractures and injuries to his internal organs.
On February 25, Gabe slipped, fell on some ice and rolled under a school bus at the corner of E. 32nd Street Street and Elliot Avenue. Up until last month, Gabe was in a lower body cast.
Today, Gabe is proud to show off his running skills and is eager for his school's track and field day next week.
"You know what I want to do?" Gabe said. "Is run across 100 fields."
Gabe often jokes with his mom that he has superhero powers, but based on his remarkable progress, that actually seems possible.
Gabe's parents did not put their son through surgery at the time of the accident. The medical bills have mounted to the $200,000 mark. Family and friends are holding a benefit Saturday at South High School in Minneapolis.
