@redbrian3655 maybe I'm a bit Communist, but you must consider that in the age of Bach or Vivaldi music wasn't intended for commercial use. The musicians worked for the great aristocratics or for ecclesiastical associations and they lived with a monthly pay, so they don't care if another musician took their own works. The famous "soggetto" of the Fugue in D Minor by Bach is taken by a Pachelbel's organ fantasy in D, for example. The commercialization of this times destroyed the good music.
@KISIMOV Bach arranged several of Vivaldi's concerti, as well as Telemann, Marcello and Ernst and others. They did much the same. It was considered quite an honor to have one master transcribe another master's work. It is only nowadays with these copyright laws that people have become selfish and want to solely own their own works have and no one else touch them. This same concerto is also played on the organ.... because I play it!!!
Oh, that's delightful! Thanks for sharing. I guess Sebastian learned the concerto format from Vivaldi, but took it a lot further. This is wonderful. Going through all these concerti listening to the two different versions. It's like a 20 course meal!
Is this on a CD? I want it! Can't find it.
