This is the fourth part of my Photoshop Coloring Tutorial. It will show you how to shade your colors using bright and dark tones.

-Edit-
Realized I didn't specify to click the "Lock Layer Transparency" button on each color layer before you shade. I added an annotation to show where the button is on the screen. Sorry everyone.

  • How do you get your audio so clear?

  • @mariegoslar I'm just using a $30 Logitech headset. The mic is surprisingly good on it. Search Amazon.com for "Logitech headset" and it's the first result.

  • I think i missed one detail, how are you making sure your 10% flow brush isn't going to affect other layers? is there some sort of lock that makes 'white space' on each layer immune to being colored over at a certain history point?

  • @dragames Yes, there's info in the description as well as a popup bubble during the beginning of the video. I forgot to actually record that part, but you need to have lock transparency on. With it turned on, whatever pixels on a layer that have no color data will become locked, and you cannot paint on them until it's turned off.

  • I recently (a week ago~) started to draw digitally and really searched for such a tutorial, that shows the functions of photoshop and is not like "how do I draw a cat" or so. And it really helped me a lot, thank you! <3

  • ur a great inspiration to me man,, thanks a lot for the tutorials

  • "But it looks cool so who cares" truer words have never been spoken

  • O.O woh this looks awesome xD

  • @maglot What is it that you don't like about the pen tool? It works great for creating areas you need to fill with color in the comics that use a lot of large areas of ink for shading, such as cross-hatched inks, stringy hair inkings, etc... The methods used in this video would seem to work fine for an ink that's only black and white, but some of the drawings I'm coloring (not my own work; I can't draw that well) have a lot of greys which work nicely for shading, but don't like the magic wand.

  • i saw other videos in youtube, those that are drawing anime, they first likely put some gray area all over them, well i don't really know what that's for,..

is your coloring style any different from them? i can't get it cuz it's speed paint, and those guys don't reply to your comments and questions
