Mining operations on Rapu Rapu island in the Philippines by Australian company LaFayette are a ticking time bomb for local fisheries and the region's coral reefs and whale sharks. Take action here: http://www.greenpeace.org/seasia/en/save-our-seas/
im an Australian i have a house in this area ,im very saddened about what is going on they should contain all waist and treat it . pumping it out into these lagoons is a man made ploblem which will have a large effect the Eco system for many years to come .
hey Indul1, ur partly right, ur living just for today,
is it sustainable (mining)? in this irresponsible mining, do you think i can feed our children's children . .pls think about the next generation. let us leave them a living planet. Go basic.
Rich countries like US, Canada, G. Britain, France, Australia, Japan and many more keeps their nation pristine while taking advantage of the undevelop countries. To stay on top, they make sure the undevelop countries stay at the bottom while and use up their natural resources. I agree w/ proukzmourne. Remember Lapu-lapu, he stand for his right and killed Magellan. You could all do the same. It's your land not the Ausies or Macapagal.
ripzipdip ........ i reckon that your a fat bastard sitting on your couch now drinking wine or champagne.. like all those fat nonsense people who only likes money..... you must me absolutely empty... i can tell you one thing i wish you were a fluffer fish swimming in rapu-rapu water... good luck to you mate... bastard moron... sorry about this but i just want to be fair from a little fish to the people that live in that water...
Just another point. The Philippines should develop a national mineral strategy with planning agreements and tax regimes in place on all major projects to maximize the gain to the country. It should also lay down key labour and environmental safeguards within the planning agreements to ensure that any damage to the environment is restored and workforces are respected. Local government should also get a share of the revenues so as to invest in their local municipalities in social/health sectors.
NGO's lie about these economic developments all the time and have been exposed as such. Everything from fish poisoning to poor economic development from the mine is just bullshit. Rapu Rapu is very poor indeed. Farming will not lift these people out of poverty no matter what greenpeace and others say.
