A special request.

The Bad Monkey doesn't have as much output as the CM-2 so I apologise for the level difference (corrected later on in the video).

My choice? I'll take the CM-2, thanks. Unless I need the speaker sim..

  • This makes me sad about my BM...thanks for the low self-confidence Burgs!

  • @Ilovemyfender2 Heheh. Don't be sad! It's not better or worse; just 'different'.

    :)

  • Does the Hardwire use 18 volts? It's so much cleaner and louder than the Bad Monkey. It also has a much more pleasing distortion character, I think.

  • @InatorCorp Both 9V, sir. I wouldn't give them anything more or you might nuke them.

  • Seems to me you should've balanced the two pedals' out put better. Yes, the Hardwire is louder, but the Monkey still has plenty of knob left. No fair.

  • hardwire smacks the monkey.

  • Some pedals just seem to work to add to the original signal where others alter the tone and character of the amp. Whether thats good or bad is subjective to opinion. I remember back in the 80s when I experimented with JCM's I liked the half overdriven ballsy AC/DC Black Crows Aerosmithish sounds those amps produced until I drove em with Boss OD's then everything was seemingly overdriven and fluid but I lost all my amps colossalness, Matter of matching up certain gear.

  • The Hardwire pedal sounds really good. Very transparent and dynamic. I have a Bad Monkey and it's a really bad sounding unit imo. Flat and lifeless. A Boss SD-1 sounds much fuller, richer and more dynamic, just as a comparison.

  • @WRCzATL I agree. I have them both, and they can be made to sound almost exactly the same. The Bad Monkey is unbeatable in its price range! Of course the CM-2 is better built and has that extra mode, but it's only a tiny bit better than the BM. In a band situation no-one would be able to tell the difference :-)

  • I gotta admit,I do love my CM-2,and if it were a woman,I'd marry it.Well,at least the CM-2 doesn't cost me 3/4ths of my paycheck every week!lol.

  • can definatly hear the tone sucked when using the bad monkey. the turbo flange, and i'd imagine alot of other digitech pedals do the same.

  • @Nickpatient

BM is not True Bypass and it's apparently known for tonesucking (less treble and slight compression)

bought one on e-bay today anyway (25€) and thinkin' about getting a g-lab looper for my pedals

(maybe i do a demo about it when i gathered all the stuff)

  • @Ilovemyfender2 You shouldn't feel back about the BM. I own the CM-2 and I wouldn't feel bad with BM, it's almost half the price and I'm not sure there would be much of a difference in sound when adding a 'lead boost' to a crunch sound. I think the CM sounds better over a clean channel but I'm sure if you tweak the knobs for long enough you can get almost the same sound. Is the BM true bypass? Because if it is it's definately a huge bargain. (The CM-2 is.. Which I love. :) )
