Response to Tyra Banks' "kiss my fat ass!" comment on her show. Tyra, while I think well-meaning, is not fat, and should therefore make no claims to be.

  • this is wierd...so you have to be fat to get someone to listen?? and tht lady is racist.lol.you can tell she has been rehearsing this and she is reading it. she probably lives in her moms basement i mean look at her sheets. it loooks like a closet in there. my closet is bigger and that is sad.lol.

  • Normally, I just wouldn't reply to someone calling me a racist, because there's just no basis for it in fact and saying that is trollish. But yes, I was reading -- which is actually proof that I HADN'T rehearsed. I recorded this, because before YouTube expanded the number of characters one could use, no matter how I wrote it, I couldn't get it under the allowed number of characters. I said, "Screw it, I'll use my digital camera and just say it."

Yes, my old bedroom was pretty sad. I agree.

  • So your trying to tell her when she has obviously been critisized during her life that was all nothing? Tyra obviously knows what it is like to be critisized and is standing up for people with not as much public voice as her and im sure many people apricate her support and understanding.

  • I'm sure many do. Knowing what it's like to be criticized can lend empathy, true. I know what it's like to be judged by my size, so that knowledge can translate over to empathizing with an AA person for being judged for skin color. But that's not the same as appropriating it, which she in a way did. Thank you for your measured, respectful message, even if we may disagree.

  • she wasn't pretending to be fat, she's just representing how society should respond and feel about themself and it's just figurative speech. you seem to have failed to comprehend tyra's message.

  • Nah, I got it. I disagree with how she went about it.

  • What a clever woman you are! I agree, the paparazzi is largely to blame for young women to have anorexia, because they publish photos of thin, physically fit women, and they impose the social norm of what is "fat" and what is not. On the other side of the spectrum, people(yes, including us men) should ALWAYS try to be in the best possible shape!!

  • I am sure a person heavier then you would say you were thin also! Weight is all relative to the individual. More importantly what has Tyra's heritage got to do with weight? It is Americans like you who give my white skin colour a bad reputation!!

  • I think you make a point- Tyra's not fat. But I think Tyra was saying "Kiss my (what you might call) "fat" ass." She knows she's not fat but just because she's not fat doesn't mean she can't stand up for fat people everywhere who feel ugly and put down. I was so happy that I had someone in the media cheering me on- not to loose weight but to be my beautiful, amazing self at 300 pounds. Not "Be your beautiful, amazing self at 150."

Your point is very valid, but I cherish her un-yeilding support.

  • being 'fat' is your decision... if a 5million pound person decided thety were skinny, then so be it. tyras point was that she is built big and that she WASNT FAT. i think ur bein so disrespectful to tyras message. tyra is a strong itnelligent woman who has been through alot and has a strong hold on reality, unlike u.

  • tyra wasn't pretending to be fat! she was talking about her actual ass, which is big, and that's a good thing lol. she was basically telling the media fuck u for making fun of people.

  • society does make a big influence in whatever we buy and more importantly the media plays a big role in how people feel about themselves. we like to think of ourselves as liberated and that no one will change us but in the real, we are conforming. the fact that weight is even a PHYSICAL issue to tyra or to anyone shows that we are being brain washed. weight if anything is a health issue and that goes for people under weight too. this intelligent woman is showing courage by going against the norm

  • Lady, the truth is you are fat. Blaming corporations will not change that. Some people don't want to be fat, and there are business that help them. They get to make money, and those people get to do something about being fat, if they so chose. You chose not to. That is your right. But don't pretend that it is all some grand conspiracy. YOU ARE FAT. Even if no one made you feel bad about it, you still would not be able to run, jump, fit into regular clothes. Don't take your angst out on Tyra.

  • Wow usually I have something to add ... but that was very well said ... point well taken

  • Now I'm an overweight woman and even I understood the message that Tyra was sending out. And not once did I stop and think "now wait, Tyra can't say that, she's not fat". I was inspired by what she said and I feel like she gave me that confidence to tell those who've put me down to kiss my fat ass. Society has very different views of what is fat and what isn't, get a clue.

  • Lady you really need to get a life. I mean yes, she is an ex supermodel and no she is not what most people in society would consider to be fat. But come on, any person with common since could see that Tyra was not pretending to be fat. She was simply sending out a response to not only the people in the media who put that picture out and called her fat, but also to people who have a problem with and put down other overweight girls and women.

  • Oh please shut up. She was making a point and it made perfect sense. Her point was that she wasn't fat. She didn't mean "Kiss my FAT ass". She meant "Kiss my 'fat' ass".

  • You are smart and beautiful and very well spoken. You make an excellent point. Anyone who watches this and doesn't understand, is not on the side of size acceptance. Thank you for putting out an intelligent, well thought message. This is an awesome video! Love - DAB
