Russia's GNP is about the size of the Netherlands' GNP. Not that much larger than the economy of Los Angeles County, either. Of course Putin is in charge of Russia. Why bother with meaningless titles like "Prime Minister" Putin and "President" Medvedev? Only propagandist news agencies like Russia Today paper over the realities in Russia. I wouldn't be surprised if RT is an arm of the KGB - cough, cough - FSB just like everything else in ex-KGB agent Putin's Russia.

Ye,ye. The bulk of your exports are raw materials and slightly refined products. Check any statistics if you like.
I sad if you think democracy is a mere ideology :(
-
not necessarily "raw materials". Raw materials is ore, oil. Russia exports ready products in the form of different steels (which require heavy industrial processing), ships. Not to forget we hold second place for weapon export after the US. And again, what does democracy have to do with anything. It's just an ideology, not the be-all-end-all.
-
That's my point! You export raw materials! And I must disagree with the cheap labour thingy. I have ones been there...
One more reason NOT to have Russia in G8: Russia support lukashenko's regime. Very democratic indeed...

McCain's game is strictly political. He just has a Russia bias and is perfectly comfortable economically isolating Russia (so we don't progress further). Hes not being constructive, nor realistic. He just wants the US to call all the shots around the world, and he knows India and Brazil won't be posing a threat because their global interests are very limited.
-
democracy has little to do with economy. Plus, must of the democratic accusations are overblown - propaganda with political motives.
Russia is extremely indistrialized, yes it doesnt produce consumer goods like China (becauses there's no Cheap labor). Russia has the biggest steel and aluminium industries - which they export. Shipbuilding, survival goods and of course Natural Gas. There are plnety of refineries btw, dunno where you got that information. Lots of oil calls for lots of refineries.
-
Major economic power yes... But I wouldn't call it "industrialized". I recall that Russia hasn't eve got one oil refinery.
And there is the democracy problem also...
-
why and how? Russia is a major economic power. He just wants to do it for "muscle flexing" purposes and because Russia is challenging US imperial interests in Eastern Europe.
-
Hmm... It was the US that invited Russia to G8. The decision was purely political and didn't base on economical realities. Maybe they can undo the decision...
-
then make it G11. McCain can kiss everyones ass. US doesn't run the world, nor G8 - so it's really not his decision. I think he just doesn't like the fact Russia is gradually getting off it's knees and becoming wealthier - I feel bad for this senile old man.
Huge idiot, truly american.

I am really hoping he does not become the president of America. I very much dislike McCain and the Republican party. I believe we need a president who will make relations between Russia and the U.S. better
