I saw a video about a guy who hooked up an IR Detector to a fan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQCKvf8SFQ4) and counted the RPM's so I thought I would try it. I took the ANALOG READ program from Arduino.cc and modified it to add a LED and a speaker. Also I had to fix the value for the detector so that when detector came on I didn't count the blade until the detector went off.
