In the spring of 2009, our community environmental group undertook the depaving of half the parking lot at our local community centre, the House of Friendship. Using funds received from the local Caisse Desjardins and Soverdi, a community greening fund, and with the help of 75 volunteers, we spent two weekends removing the asphalt and concrete and installing a beautiful garden and entry way. The garden was planted with local plants and a cherry tree. We hope to continue doing depaving projects and making our street and community a greener, more sustainable, safer and more welcoming place! www.greeningduluth.org / www.vertduluth.org
