No necessarilly. They could've done a partial demo. There's a building near where I live, that 2/3's was demo'd, and they spared the big 1/3, and still stands.

Yes they did. If they had to demolished the hotel, then the Statehouse Convention Center that's connected to it had to go as well.

Otisa seems to have done a respectful modernization.
Nice to see an older hotel reopen, instead of demolished, and a new stale entity taking its place.

The elevator car itself is original but different color. When this hotel was The Excelsior they were Westinghouse's with the EPCO Circleline fixtures. The hotel closed in 1999 and reopened in 2001. Otis went on and modernized these. They did kept the Westy bell.

That was nice to watch. Wonder if they had to lean a new building, or is this one the original (modernized elevators and appearance)?
