Here is a taste of WLS' 2008 BIG 89 Rewind -- hosted by the greats... Larry Lujack, Tommy Edwards, Fred Winston, John Records Landecker and MORE! Full "Rewind" video coming soon!
Loved it all! Great to hear the voice that IS Fred Winston. Lujack is the same as he ever was: cranky and in his own world (i.e. rather be golfing or doing anything else). I've missed Landecker - met him in 1976. WLS was the transistor radio setting of my youth, and a contributing factor as to why I became a DJ in 1979. I love it to this day. Thanks!
I grew up listening to these guys. It sucked when they changed formats. Especially if you had an older car with just an AM radio. I really like them doing this occasionally. Hopefully they will do it more often.
Larry and Tommy are great! I love Larry's sarcasm too. The personalities of the old WLS were great, but I just felt the programming was the problem yesterday. I would have loved for them to do something for the FM side of WLS, for the days of WLS-FM, Z-95, and Chicago's HOt 94.7. Between AM and FM they cranked out some serious great radio in it's time a lot of it totally revolutionary for the time. Larry is right radio now is different, not enough emphasis on the local talent.
I personally listened to the Lujack portions yesterday and I didn't think it was near as good as last year. The jingles were the same as last year and the music was crap. They should have had tons of archive jingles and promotional stuff. Plus the reverb was retarded. It just seemed blah and redundant. Plus if you are going to break the format for one day, skip the news! Make it all personality radio and music. It just seemed like a program director was lazy on this one. Like a bad sequel.
WLS was great to hear before it went to talk radio. Please WLS,go back to your old format and play music again.

WLS of the 70's was the greatest. Fred Winston, probably the best DJ voice ever. Lujack is a hoot. Bring 'em all back .. please.
