Election 2011: Inform your vote

Question #7 - There has been much discussed on an international level about China's rapidly increasing investments in developing countries especially Africa. Some question whether or not China is recolonizing Africa under the auspices of development. It is no secret that China has turned its attention and invested heavily in the Caribbean. They are now the third largest direct investor in Latin America and the Caribbean. Specifically in Jamaica, the Chinese have invested over $1 billion in our roads, our ports, a conference centre, cricket stadium, our sugar industry and are exploring the tourism sector as well. Should Jamaicans be concerned about our growing dependence on China, especially since it is a country with a poor human rights record?
