Imagine if all the Christmas lights in the world could be powered by people? Imagine if there was a way that whole communities could come together this Christmas? Well this is exactly what Pavegen Systems did this winter. Pavegen installed 8 innovative floor tiles in a busy shopping centre where the shoppers were able to generate the electricity through their footsteps and dance moves.

Pavegen Systems produce paving slabs which generate electricity from footsteps. A small 5mm movement is enough to harvest the wasted kinetic energy and convert it into off-grid power. The Pavegen slabs are perfect for high footfall areas such shopping centres, train stations and events such as festivals to power off-grid solutions such as interactive displays, street lighting and advertising"

  • A great Idea. Though I wonder how much extra food has to be eaten to generate the electricity. Probably not that green but very cool :)
