I recorded this in my office while watching my one year-old, who generously provided some occasional banjo plucking, or a squeal/grunt here and there. You'd have to listen closely for that. Here are some trivia bits about this recording.
1. The guitar I used was an acoustic Gibson Epiphone PR 650 that I received for my fourteenth birthday. I'm not sure when it was manufactured, but it's at least eighteen years old.
2. I am tuned down a full step, from standard E to D. My voice simply doesn't go high enough to reach the higher yodels that Jimmie could do.
3. I have no delusions that I am anything other than a casual musician. Even then, I apply the word "musician" with the utmost caution. You'll hear some mistakes both in the guitar playing and my vocals that may make you shudder. I'm OK with that. Some professional musicians today make me shudder and wince, so I don't feel too terribly about it.
3. The audio was recorded using NeoSound FX freeware on a Windows XP machine. I used Windows Movie Maker (feel free to laugh) to add the pictures and overlay the audio.
I only ask that anyone who views this will criticize constructively. If I see any "u suck" type of comments, they will be disregarded. Those types of comments are usually the result of people who don't understand the music, or who do not have the courtesy to acknowledge the efforts of others. Overall, I find YouTube viewers to be very supportive and encouraging of others who put themselves out there, which is why I chose to upload this video.
I really do welcome constructive feedback. Knowing where my flaws are will only help me improve, or let me know that I need to move on and spend my time on other things. Each outcome is perfectly welcome.
Finally, I did not include footage of myself because my digital video camera was unplugged and stowed, therefore not quickly accessible. My son, however, had found a way to entertain himself, and it was a great time to try this. Instead of me, you see picture of Jimmie Rodgers at various points in his life, including a shot if him and the Carter family. If I decide to record any more videos, I plan to include myself in the video. It is only fair to all of the other people who gone all the way and put themselves out there entirely. I do apologize in advance for that.
A real good job 5******..I thought that was the best i have heard like J.R. ALL THE BEST TO YOU..

Thank you very much! Your comment is really timely because this was my first effort on YT, and I've been recently thinking about doing this one again to see how I've progressed in the past year and a half.
Thanks again for the kind words!

You are WAY too kind :-) Thank you for watching. This was the first video I ever posted to YouTube. Thank you for watching and listening. It means a lot coming from someone with such talent!

Hey Rob, still sounding great AND authentic to me. One of my favorite bumper stickers reads, "Real musicians have day jobs." Unfortunately for me, I'm retired, but that's the way it goes. All the best to you and the little guy. - Mark

Mark, thanks for the kind words. This was my first effort on here, and it's pretty rough around the edges. Glad you enjoyed it though, that means a lot. I love the bumper sticker, too! If I were ballsy enough to call myself a musician, I might consider getting it :-)
Hey, my folks are retired, and apparently they still have day jobs -- trying to figure out how to occupy themselves! So, keep on being a musician and crankin' it out!
