I lost 5 close friends there, sanpedro, callahan, fulcher, campus, bonk and just recently from a non related was dixon. Nashton and Toma the only guys I know survived from my unit. Tow Co. HQ

The real reason why it happend:

Col. Timothy J. Geraghty, Commander, Marines in Beirut during the incident, said that "The Marine headquarters were targeted because the US provided direct naval gunfire support -- which I strongly opposed for a week -- to the Lebanese Army at a mountain village called Suq-al-Garb on September 19. American support removed any lingering doubts of our neutrality, and I stated to my staff at the time that we were going to pay in blood for this decision.

i saw the blast from my ship the uss iwo jima. i was on the flagbridge handing with a friend on watch when at 0622hrs the blast occured and was recorded in the log as so. 222 marines, 17 navy and 2 army... i will not forget

@CFFCNOMAD the US Marines came to assist America's number one ally - Israel. They came to assist her occupation of Lebanon. Are you surprised that the US marines were killed by the anti-occupation forces?

its not very hard to understand. if u enter someone else's house and you are unwanted, but you dont leave, the owner of the house can rightly push you out. This is what happened here, america had no reason other but greed to be here, the majority didnt want them, and this was how they made them leave. it worked.

americans dont get this because no one has really invaded them.

The marines came to Lebanon to try and stop the blood shed and not helping out the Christians, they controlled the airport at that time to stop the weapons and fighters coming in every day thats why they took the blow it was the first Hezbollah attack against an foreign army, i guess the US started supplying weapons to the Christians after this incident.
